NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK JUNE 7-14
TWGC was pleased to participate in National Garden Week. This year the mayor of Trent Woods, Chuck Tyson, read a Proclamation describing just what is a gardener. Yes, some of us get down and dirty. Some of us educate others and still others appreciate the beauty of nature around us. We also are attentive to the environment and the care of our natural resources. We are garden club members and master gardeners. We are teachers who pass on our knowledge of birds, bees and butterflies. In essence, this document encompasses all we do as gardeners. Maybe some of us can’t bend and dig, but we always enjoy gardens and share this love with others. It’s safe to say that many of our own flowers and plants were given to us by neighbors and friends. We connect with others by providing inspiration and education. We are given seeds and cuttings and investigate how to grow them. In fact, the Confederate rose which we are planting today at the town’s newest park, Cottle, is a cane from a former president’s neighbor’s tree. I received over 40 canes and have distributed them to not only our club members but also to my neighbors. How fun it will be to see the flowers blooming all over the area (including Craven and Pamlico counties)! Happy Garden Week and enjoy all that the Lord has provided to us and for us.
